University of Bedford, Luton Campus

The new Library at the Luton campus of the University of Bedfordshire which opened in June 2016 was designed by Moses Cameron Williams Architects (of Cambridge) and project managed and installed by Willmott Dixon.
The University has been around for over 100 years and teaches in a wide range of subject areas as well as conducting award winning research across health, energy and technology, and social policy topics.
The library is spread over 7 floors including silent study rooms, group work and meeting spaces, computer labs and presentation facilities and a café as well as miles of bookshelves.

500m2 of acoustic planks in natural Oak veneer were installed to the walls of the aisles and stairways in the new library at the Luton Campus of Bedford University.

The walls were installed to the new 24 hour library facility at the 100 year old campus as part of a £46m regeneration project creating a new hub for the University. In addition to an impressive traditional library space the building houses a range of other facilities for students and staff including a cafe, formal and informal social study and silent study space, high-speed wifi and mains and USB power supplies at every workspace and seating area.

The timber ruler system was specified by MosesCameronWilliams Architects for the space for the impressive acoustic control as well as the stylish linear texture of the product. Planks can installed as either a demountable or fixed system using the supplied clip system and tongue and groove linear modules.
